Lifting an object that’s not visible, Gebuwin has the perfect solution for all handwinches. Introducing a stroke counter for all hand winches. This stroke counter makes it possible for the user to identify the right height of the load. When preparing the winch for use, it is only necessary to determine the number of strokes required to hoist a certain number of metres.

The first Gebuwin stroke counter winch is used for an application where a submersible pump needs to be lifted back and forth in a large reservoir. The submersible pump is not visible when the winch is used. 3 metres must be lifted resulting in about 250 strokes. 🦾👀

At the Tai Po School in Honk Kong eight manual winches from Gebuwin were installed. The total lifting capacity from one winch is 500 kg, however this winch has a special feature. This winch has four compartments, so the load can be lifting at 4 points.

These eight manual winches from Gebuwin are being used to lift light- & sound bars above a stage in the school hall. 💡🎶

Because of the four compartments, and therefore the four cables, the load is more stable and balanced. Besides that, distributing the weight across four cables can prevent overloading a single cable, which in this case enhances the safety of lifting the light- & sound bars.

In Lumut, Malaysia, one of our hand winches is currently being used to lower a ‘Doppler Current Sensor’ into the sea. 🌊

This ‘Doppler Current Sensor’ is used by Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad to obtain accurate and real-time information about the water flow in the vicinity of their loading jetty. The ‘Doppler Current Sensor’ is raised and lowered for maintenance every six months.

Because of the harsh weather conditions around the loading jetty, our hand winch is coated with a three-layer offshore coating CX. In addition, the drum is completely covered so that no water or dirt can get in. These photos show the winch being used with a steel cable, however, the user will later replace it with a dyneema cable.

Applying custom options to one of our standard winches! 🦾 Normally we apply options like a grooved drum or a pressure roller on some of our high-end winches. But in this case a high-end winch was not needed as one of our standard winches was suitable for the application of Columbus McKinnon.

Because our standard winches are built in a modular way it is possible for us to add these features to meet the customers needs. 🤝

The grooved drum and the pressure roller ensure that the cable is wound neatly around the drum. In this case its only for the first layer of the drum. For this specific product our customer needs to hoist a load of 920 kg over 5 metres.

Lifting a boat with the help of our manual winch! 🦾 One of our customers intergrated our full stainless steel winches in a self-made 316 stainless steel davit crane. For lifting a boat, weighing 500 kg, the customer was searching for a 316 stainless steel hand winch to use in combination with the self-made davit crane.

For this case it was important that the cable stayed onto the first layer of the drum, henche the choice for a grooved drum. The customer uses our manual winch in combination with our electric power tool. By using the power tool the customer does not have to lift the boat all by himself.

Did you know that steel cables (stainless or galvanised) are being used to lift a load on 70% of our winches? 🤔 On the remaining 30% of our winches a synthetic rope (known as a Dyneema rope) is being used to lift a load. The advantages of a Dyneema rope are its weight, the flexibility and the fiber cable is corrosion resistant.

Only rarely a webbing belt is being used to lift a load. Webbing belts are widely used on small towing winches. A common example of this is the use of webbing belts for pulling a boat on a trailer. However webbing belts, are not being used for heavier industrial applications.

In this unique case, a customer asked for a 3t winch to be fitted so that it could use a webbing belt to lift a load. Together with our supplier for webbing belts DiLAGO Hijs- en Heftechniek B.V. we were able to satisfy the customer. 🤝😄

Here at Gebuwin the entire production process of our winches is in-house. Right here a small part of the production of our winches is being displayed, and in particular the process of making a worm shaft.

(1) The production process begins with raw material that is then cut into the right size (left).

(2) After getting the right size the raw material is placed in our lathe from Dormac CNC Solutions by the robot. The lathe then performs multiple actions including: drilling, seaming, rotating- and threading internally (middle).

(3) When te lathe is done, the robot removes the product from our lathe and moves it to the milling machine. Here the teeth for our worm shaft are being milled (right).

These two big hand winches, made for CiTECH Energy Recovery System Malaysia Sdn Bhd have a lifting capacity of 5000 kg. These two particular winches are being used to open large hatches in an explosion-hazardous environment, that is also located near seawater. 💥🌊

Because of the complex circumstances these winches are made of full stainless steel 316 and they are ATEX certified for zone 2 and 22. This ensures safe use of the winches in this dangerous environment.

For this customer project, a total of 14 zinc-plated davit cranes with a lifting capacity of 250kg were installed. These cranes are specifically intended for lifting sewage pumps from the smaller pumping stations in Rotterdam.

To improve mobility, additional handles have been added to the cranes. These pumps are periodically lifted for maintenance or in case of failures, such as caused by unsuitable pollutants in the sewers.

One of the largest steel manufacturers in the world uses our low speed electric winches to control large input and output screens for its “flue gas recirculation” installation. By being able to control these screens, a higher flow rate of flue gas can be circulated because more negative pressure can be created behind the screens.

A low speed is needed to operate the screens very accurately since abrupt movements can affect the process, which is why the winch is equipped with a grooved drum with a pressure roller. There is also an encoder on this winch that ensures that the operator is aware of the position of the screens.

For this customer project two of our stainless steel Marine winches with a 5000kg lifting capacity were used at Horseshoe Corner on the River Thames for the tidal flat valves, ensuring precise control of tidal levels.

To ensure smooth winding of the cable onto the drum, grooves are machined into the drum, and a pressure roller is installed to maintain tension on the wire rope and guide it into the grooves. To properly guide the cable to the valves, our stainless steel pulley blocks are used.

An older model Gebuwin winch was initially used but has since succumbed to rust. Now, the latest model Marine winches are used!🤝

For this customer project, we supplied several of our theater winches to lift theatrical equipment over stages in small theaters, which are often school or community spaces. The winches are permanently installed, and using a series of steel wire ropes and pulleys, they support a 75 x 50mm steel section batten that is around 13.0m long. Theatrical goods (Lights, curtains, scenery, etc.) are then attached to this bar and raised into the position required.

The decision on the final order required a detailed discussion, driven by the specific preferences of the customer. Together with the customer, we chose manually operated winches over electric ones, prioritizing the customer’s requirements for cost-effectiveness, reliability and operational efficiency to uphold safety standards.

We received a quote from a client that needed one of our swivel davits. The client was looking for a solution to load and unload 50kg boxes (wolf packs) on top of their Toyota mega cruiser BXD10 without ‘breaking their backs.’
The Toyota was about 2 meters high. For this reason, we provided them with our SD125, which can lift 125kg and is about 2 meters tall.

Our winches are used for many different applications. For example, the Cleveland Cascades Limited head chutes come with equipment with the necessary components to optimize loading and aid maintenance and operational use.

The chute contains some critical components, like our locally mounted hand winch. The hand winch is used to easily remove the cascade chute shroud for maintenance and commissioning purposes. The Gebuwin winch is a small but critical element of the Cleveland Cascade chute.

How it’s made: painting

Before the materials are painted, they are first degreased; this ensures better paint bonding. Once the materials have dried, the painting process begins.

To coat our materials, Gebuwin uses the air mix technique with two paint components. This means the paint is squeezed out of the paint gun at low pressure, creating an even mist. The painting itself is not a long process, taking about 5 minutes. The hardening and drying of the materials take a lot longer, at 8 hours.

Gebuwin also offers various options when painting the materials. As standard, we supply our winches with one coat layer (80 – 100 microns), but of course, we can also apply an additional coat layer. We even use three coat layers (240 – 280 microns) according to the C5M Offshore coating standard for products that come into contact with salt water.

This is a good example of a custom winch we made. The customer needs to lift several trusses in a theatre on 4 points. Hence the four compartments we made on the drum. To still have enough cable storage per compartment, we had to widen the complete frame of the winch. The production time was three weeks for this special winch. Our customer was very happy with it.

A hand winch can be used to move a load both horizontally and vertically, i.e. lifting or pulling. A winch is also used to initiate a pivoting motion or to tension loads, below are some examples:

One of the largest steel manufacturers in the world uses low-speed electric winches to control large input and output doors for its “flue gas recirculation” installation. By controlling these doors, a higher flue gas flow rate can be circulated because more negative pressure can be created behind the doors.

A low speed is needed to operate the doors very accurately since abrupt movements can affect the process, which is why the winch is equipped with a grooved drum with a pressure roller. There is also an encoder on this winch that ensures that the operator is aware of the position of the screens. The speeds of these winches are less than 0,4 m/min.

A gangway is a passageway that connects point A to point B. Generally used on vessels. Today’s use of gangways is for passengers to safely board and exit a vessel, as well as for loading and unloading, and repairing vessels. Our customer uses a riding ladder which has a gangway with a fixed length and which needed to be operated with a manual winch. Due to the fact that the gangway will be used nearby seawater and nearby an ATEX zone, the winch had to be full stainless steel 316 grade. So for this application a worm gear hand winch in stainless steel is used which is ATEX certified for zone 2.
