Strict safety requirements
In the stage- and entertainment industry, there is a need for reliable stage winches with the highest safety requirements. These stage winches must ensure the safety and health of people working or staying under suspended loads. Given the diversity of applications and locations, since May 2020 a new European standard has been introduced, namely EN17206 for winches in the stage- and entertainment industry. Prior to this, there was no central European standard. However, there are commercial, non-European, standards such as DGUV 17 and BGV C1.
Gebuwin’s theatre winch complies with the new European standard. The theatre winch is a safe and high-quality winch that has been developed, especially for the entertainment world and is therefore new in our range. For example, think of a winch to lift a light bar. In short, it’s a great acquisition for Gebuwin, which literally and figuratively has the right to be “in the picture”.
The norm prescribes that the winch must have two brakes. At Gebuwin, we have therefore chosen a worm gear instead of a spur gear transmission. The advantage is the natural braking effect of the worm gear transmission. This winch is equipped with two load-pressure brakes and complies with safety factor 8. To give the theatre winch even more finesse and ease of use, it is fitted with a grooved drum and pressure roller.

Lifting theatre equipment
For this customer project, we supplied several of our TW300 theater winches to lift theatrical equipment over stages in small theaters, which are often school or community spaces. The winches are permanently installed, and using a series of steel wire ropes and pulleys, they support a 75 x 50 mm steel section batten that is around 13 metres long. Theatrical goods (lights, curtains, scenery etc.) are then attached to this bar and raised into the position required.
Lifting beams above people
This project consists of twenty seven electric winches, with a lifting capacity of 250 kg each. These winches will be used to carry 12 meter long beams, which have electricity and compressed air outlets installed to them. The beams are applied in workspaces for people with a physical disability.

– Issued by the Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (DGUV), or German Social Accident Insurance.
– These regulations pertain to the use of machinery and equipment in the entertainment and event industry in Germany. They set out the requirements for the construction, operation, and maintenance of such machinery and equipment, including winches.
2. EN 17206 (Europe):
– Issued by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
– This European standard deals with entertainment technology, specifically machinery for stages and other production areas. It provides safety requirements for such machinery, including winches. The TW300 from Gebuwin is manufactures in The Netherlands and so complies to the EN17206 standard.
3. BS 7906-1 and BS 7906-2 (UK):
– Issued by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
– These standards provide guidance on the selection, installation, and use of temporary demountable structures and special structures, including winches, for the entertainment industry.
4. ANSI E1.6-1 and ANSI E1.6-2 (USA):
– Issued by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
– These standards are part of the Entertainment Technology series and cover powered hoist systems in the entertainment industry. They provide guidance on design, manufacture, installation, and use of these systems.
5. OSHA (USA):
– The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has regulations that, while not specific to theaters, cover machinery and worker safety, which would apply to winches and hoists used in the entertainment industry.
6. Local Regulations:
– Many countries or regions will have their own specific regulations and standards related to machinery and equipment in the entertainment industry. It’s essential to be familiar with local regulations if operating in a specific country or region.
