Measuring small lakes using a sounding line winch

During dredging in small lakes or canals, accurately measuring depth is essential to ensure precise and effective dredging operations. Since large vessels with expensive equipment cannot be used in these confined areas, the dredging company, in collaboration with Gebuwin, developed a simple yet robust manual measuring instrument called the “Peillijnlier”.

This manual winch enables operators to quickly lower a measuring line to the bottom of a lake or canal, reaching depths of up to 10 meters. The line includes multiple measurement markers, allowing users to clearly see the exact depth as they take readings. This feature provides real-time information on the water depth, enabling operators to make quick adjustments during dredging.

Since the winch doesn’t need to lift heavy weights, a gearless winch design was chosen. This model is essentially a high-speed reel, crafted entirely from durable stainless steel (RVS316) to withstand tough conditions and frequent use in water environments. The gearless design ensures that the line can be rapidly lowered and retrieved, making it an ideal choice for frequent, efficient depth checks.

The Peillijnlier is designed with simplicity and durability in mind. It allows for seamless operation without the need for power or complex maintenance, making it suitable for dredging projects in remote or challenging locations. With this easy-to-use depth measuring tool, operators can achieve the accuracy they need, even in areas where deploying large, high-tech equipment is not feasible.
