Handling large and heavy cages in a fish farm
The Norwegian aquaculture industry is constantly expanding and requires quality equipment. An occupation on these fish farms is handling the large enclosures, which serve as breeding grounds for the fish. The winches are used to pull the cages out of the water, facilitating maintenance tasks and other necessary activities.
Handling large and heavy cages
Here, 16 stainless steel winches are installed at a salmon farm in Norway. This is a long-lasting, safe and user-friendly solution that also works well in all weather conditions. The winches are designed to be adapted to the long-term fish farming environment and fulfill the industry’s requirements for durability, hygiene, safety and the environment.
The Norwegian fish cultivating industry is always developing and nowadays accounts for over 65% of the world’s cultivated salmon. In line with this improvement, modern innovation and superior ways of working fish farms have risen. The industry requires the latest equipment technology, and this moreover applies to the utilize of winches in fish farms.
The winches that are installed are designed for a marine environment. They can be operated manually or with a supplied electric motor. The electric motor is mounted on the drive shaft so that in many cases the job can be done more easily and efficiently. The winches are installed in a fish farm where they will play a crucial role in the handling of large cages. These large cages serve as breeding grounds for fish. During harvesting, the winches are used to pull the cages out of the water, facilitating maintenance tasks and other necessary activities.
The hand winches are manufactured in 316 stainless steel. This steel provides increased corrosion resistance and is optimal in environments where salt exposure is a problem.
These hand winches are offered with both electric and air-powered motors, serving as an alternative in situations where operating a hand crank is challenging. In this instance, electric motors will be utilized for all 16 winches. With a simple toggle of the motor, you can efficiently manage multiple winches. This solution provides considerable flexibility, enabling swift transitions between manual crank and motor operation.
The winches have several advantages and are available in capacities from 500, 1500, 3000 and 5000 kg. The winches have an adjustable crank with ergonomic grip and worm gear with maintenance-free bearings. They are also very robust with wire rope outputs at the top, bottom and rear. Popular applications include lifting and pulling in saltwater environments, maritime environments, offshore, fish farming, on board boats and for use on piers and quays.
