Maritime & Offshore industry

The maritime & offshore industry is very important to Gebuwin. It is our largest market. We therefore divide this industry into a number of sub-industries, namely: shipbuilding, dredging, maritime suppliers, marine, fishing and inland navigation.

Marine winch with strict safety requirements

Due to the usually challenging weather conditions, combined with strict safety requirements in this sector, our hand winches for the maritime & offshore industry must be of the highest quality. Gebuwin has therefore developed a hand winch especially for this industry; the marine winch. All parts of the winch that are exposed to the weather are made of stainless steel 316 (highest corrosion resistance). The marine winch has a worm gear transmission to increase safety when hoisting, pulling or tensioning heavy loads. The transmission is enclosed with an IP54 rating (International Protection Rating). It is also possible to apply a marine coating to the winches. We use a very durable coating system for environmental conditions classified as C5M (very high corrosivity, marine).

Maritime gangway

In the world of maritime operations, safety and efficiency are paramount. The Norwegian aquaculture industry is constantly expanding and requires quality equipment. An occupation on these fish farms is handling the large enclosures, which serve as breeding grounds for the fish. The winches, MR3000 SST,  are used to pull the cages out of the water, facilitating maintenance tasks and other necessary activities.

Measuring depths in small lakes

During dredging in small lakes or canals, it is important to be able to measure the depth properly. Since large vessels with expensive equipment cannot be placed on small lakes or canals, a manual measuring instrument was chosen.

Offshore windmill park

As an example, Gebuwin’s hand winches, MR5000 C5M, are used in wind energy to keep the blades of wind turbines, which are placed on the North Sea by ships, in position on the ships. Due to possible severe weather conditions, it is important that the blades do not shift. Slings are stretched over the blades to keep them in place. A tensioning capacity of 5 tonnes is required for this application.

Skidding a drilling well

Skidding is a critical operation in the oil and gas industry, enabling precise positioning en relocation of heavy drilling equipment, such as drilling wells. In skidding, Gebuwin WW3000 winches are used to provide the controlled force necessary for moving large hoses and components of the drilling well, ensuring both safety and efficiency.

Collapsible mast

The Ionic Anax is a crude oil tanker that was built in 2017 and like many other ships, the upper mast is collapsible. This is because it sometimes needs to be tilted for maintenance or when the ship needs to sail under a bridge.

The upper mast weighs about 2500 kg and since this ship is sailing over seas a stainless steel winch is needed to endure the rough conditions. Our in full stainless steel 316 is used for this application.

Supply market

It is of great importance that cargo is loaded into and out of ships as quickly as possible, because time in ports is precious. That is why pumps are very important. These pumps can be up to 30 metres long, as they have to reach the bottom of the ship.

Dredging water bodies

The winch shown in the picture is used for dredging. Dredging includes all the work required for removing silt, sand, rocks and other forms of debris from the bottom of water bodies.

Cargo ships move a lot of goods around the world every day and they require deep water to travel through the shipping channels. The natural process of sedimentation causes these shipping channels to fill up with the likes of silt and sand, which then redus the depth of the shipping channel.

For this case a manual winch from Gebuwin, WW3000,  is being used to lower te dredging system to the bottom of the water body. Once the dredging is done the winch is being used to lift the dredging system up again.

Dry bulk handling

When material is allowed to fall uncontrolled, it accelerates, and as the velocity increases dust particles within te material seperate and are ejected by the fast moving air-stream created.

Ship loading presents a major challenge since the material must be delivered to the vessel’s hold from a boom conveyor. This often happens at 20 metres or more above the hold floor, generating high material velocity and extreme dust hazard. Cleveland Cascades Limited has a solution for this problem and it uses one of Gebuwin’s winches, WW250.

Locks

The use of our marine hand winches to lift locks at large filters for cleaning at a refinery in the port of Rotterdam. Lifting the locks can be done manually but our customer chose for a compressed air motor.
