The Doosan Puma 2600YL is a CNC machine tool that can perform various machining operations such as turning, tapping, drilling and milling. With the robot from Yaskawa, the lathe can be used even more efficiently, as the robot automatically picks up the materials to be machined from the pallet and feeds them into the lathe. The robot takes the machined materials out again and puts them back into the pallet. This allows machine to run unmanned. Both machines were supplied by Dormac CNC Solutions.

What exactly does the lathe do?

As shown in the video, the robot brings the material to be machined into the machine, after this the doors close. The material is then clamped in the chuck, after this the chuck starts rotating. The cutting tool is stationary, but moves along the x and z-axes. The special feature of this lathe is that it also has a y-axis, the advantage of a y-axis is that the tool rotates and the product is stationary. This allows you to make even more complex machining operations. In this way, the cutting tool then processes the material. By means of a program programmed in advance, the lathe is controlled. Each product has its own program.
